Vespacar: history and specs

Moto Vespa, S.A. would manufacture the Vespacar in Spain.

And on November 28, 1960, they announced the launch of the Vespacar 199, 200, and 201 on the Spanish market. Three different versions of this revolutionary product, innovative for its time, with low fuel consumption and generous capacity. This made it practical, economical, manageable, useful, mechanically simple, easy to maneuver, and highly reliable.

The location and operation of the controls are identical to those of the scooter, with a small lever under the seat for reverse, and equipped with a battery, parking brake, and turn signals. In addition to the 400 kg payload, the cabin can accommodate two people. It has a 150 cc engine, epicyclic differential transmission, a 4-speed forward gearbox with handlebar controls, plus the aforementioned reverse gear. Fuel consumption of 3.4 liters per 100 kilometers, tank capacity of 11 liters, power of 6 hp, top speed of 60 km/h, weight including the cab of 195 kg, and open cargo box dimensions of 125x125x27 cm, while the van dimensions were 125x113x80 cm.

Over time, all of this evolved according to market demand. Platforms, crossovers, vans, box trucks, passenger transport, horse-drawn carts (ideal for urban deliveries), work vehicles, motorized tricycles, and a van with increased height in 1963, thus gaining capacity, were manufactured.

The early days in Spain were very successful, as evidenced by the enormous number of urban delivery tricycles that gradually gave way to these other "motorized tricycles."

During the first four years, approximately 1,500 units were manufactured per year (early 1960s), with sales declining in 1965 due to competition from other brands. The cab was then enlarged; the van's passenger compartment was raised, the doors opened from back to front, and some models included heating.
